Bidvertiser fails it’s initial test

Sep 20th, 2007 | By knup | Category: Reviews

blog_bidvertiser.pngSo a few weeks back I decided to give Bidvertiser a try and take advantage of their free $20 deal for advertisers.  Well, I don’t have an issue with the advertiser portion - this seemed to work fine and I’ve used my $20 up getting a decent amount of clicks.  Not sure how valuable those clicks have been, but it’s traffic I guess!  I won’t be adding more money into the advertiser program at this point.

I also decided to give the publisher program a try on a few of my sites, replacing adsense.  This little experiment has been a total flop.  In two weeks of showing Bidvertiser ads I had a total of 0 clicks.  That’s right, ZERO!

So I’m not sure if two weeks was a large enough time frame to judge fairly, but I’m sick of it.  I can surely find better ways to use that advertising space - and for now I’m moving those ads back to adsense.

  1. The point many miss on these secnd and third tier networks is … they have limited inventory. People don’t click on the ads because they are not relevant or they are the same old ads over and over.

IMO most bloggers approach advertising as a confrontation with the reader … what can I put up to get these SOB’s to click?

The reason I started running ads on my first blog … about commercial GPS use … was because AdSense has thousands of relevant ads about GPS electronics and systems .. not an occasional GPS dashboard navigator for someone’s car.

If people are focusing on consumer type products then “small guys” like Bidvertiser might do well … in even a semi-specialized niche such as “blogging for bucks” or “SEO”, etc., Google will have thousands of ads and the “little guys” may not.

I’ve had people actually write me and tell how an AdSense ad helped them find a product they were looking for … thanking me for running the ads … relevancy means everything.

  2. Great point dave. Honestly never really thought of that angle on it. But very true. THe ads were not targetted very well at all. Thanks for contributing around here - really appreciate it!

  3. I keep getting emails from BidVertiser telling me I didn’t deposit money so my ads aren’t showing (not even the $20 free). I’m starting to get pissed off, because I keep replying telling them why, yet they continue to spam me.

When I got to depositing I was informed that once the $20 free was up, they’d start billing my card unless I paused the campaign. I’ve no idea how long the $20 will last and I’m not sat at my machine, so there’s no way I can gaurantee I could see how well spent that $20 was before they start charing my card. I wouldn’t call this a free offer, but a scam to start charging you money!

If they let me see results of $20 (by automatically pausing at the end) and then decide, I’d take up their offer. Not before.

  4. I agree, bidvertiser isn’t so good. I have had 3500 views and only 5 clicks. I don’t like adsense, any other good ppc programs out there, or maybe a cpm?

  5. Roger and out, Bidvertiser ads are just not targetted enough! But maybe they will improve later on.. :)

  6. Yep. Bidvertiser = gone!
