How Directory Submissions can help in Online Marketing
Sep 15th, 2009 | By knup | Category: Link Development, My FeatureSometimes when you think of online directories you think of “spam”. But I’m here to tell you submitting your site to online directories is a key part of online marketing. Anytime you are starting up a new site you should include directory submission in your marketing plan. Some directories are pay and some are free – you can find a list of free directories here if you are interested in adding your site to them.
So why are directory submissions good? Well, the major search engines need to find and index your site. These links play a large role in helping you get indexed quicker. Your site will build link popularity and increase its visibility. If you submit correctly and use your main keywords in the anchor, this will help you “rank” better for these terms as well. When you are trying to rank for certain terms in Google or Yahoo or Bing, the more relevant links back to your site the better. These inbound links from online directories could play a huge role in moving you up the ranks.
I realize there is some debate about online directory submissions in the industry, but I’m still a believer that they are a good thing. Build your links up and move on without looking back.

I agree it does help to have links on directories but which are the good ones?
Should some be avoided? or considered bad neighbourhoods!
I agree with you on this. In fact I’m submitting my blogsite to the Best of the Web directory.
Directories often doesnt help the purpose bt you should do it as sometimes it help
Thanks for the list. I’ve been doing directory submission for years now.
Didn’t know that. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the link list. I’m sure this will be helpful soon.
Submitting to directories could be a good way for link building, though we must invest a lot of time in doing it. But some of these directories are big spammers too, I’ve got hundreds of spam emails which came from those directories.
Most people nowadays seem to think that directories are no longer useful and are a waste of time. It’s completely untrue–it’ll be your first guaranteed source of a hundred or so links to tide you over until you find some other good places to link from. It’s not the best, but it still helps a lot.
They are great for getting 1 way backlinks and indexing your site on google! But I don’t think they are amazingly great quality backlinks.
I think now directory is becoming outsource so directory submission is not important than social media… Thanks
Directories are a great marketing strategy. They can become hubs for spam and the like, but they can also drive much needed traffic to your website.
