Epilepsy in children can be hard especially for the parents. Epilepsy is a neurological condition that can affect children and adults, men and women. for parents of children with epilepsy, it can be extra hard to take care of them as from time to time, the symptoms of this condition occurs like a thief in the night. If you are a parent of a child with epilepsy, what you feel might just be the same with what other parents of children with epilepsy. But, you can do something to ease the condition of your child and to ease the stress that you get because of it. There are things that you can do about epilepsy in children such as the following: 1. Have a positive attitude: There will always be people who will have negative things to say about children with epilepsy, especially if they see them having seizures but do not know the cause of it. so that children with epilepsy will not be ashamed about their condition, you as a parent should keep a positive attitude so keep the confidence of the child. This can also help in encouraging him and for him to stay hopeful that his condition will get better. 2. Build resilience: Building resilience can keep the positive attitude of the child. Help the child to build resilience to keep his self-confidence and improve his social competence. Explain to the child that epilepsy in children is just a part of him but it does not define him and even if he has this kind of condition, he can still be capable of doing many things. 3. Explain to the child what his condition is: Most parents might find it hard to tell their children that their children have epilepsy. But, you have to do it so that the child can have an idea about what he is going through, accept it and get his self involve heartily with the treatments, so that it can be effective. 4. Educate caregivers and friends: Some people do not understand the condition of your child, and so when they see your child having seizures and showing the other symptoms of epilepsy, they might not understand what is happening. Educate them about it, so they will know what is happening and deal with it in a positive way. 5. Seek medical help: The most important thing that you can do for your epilepsy in children is to seek medical help. You need experts to help you and your child. Do not lose hope if your child has epilepsy as he needs you to be strong and do not blame yourself about your childÂ’s condition because it is not your fault. Think about the things that you can do for your child to keep the faith burning.
