I think PageRank was an innovative and radically dynamic way by Google to estimate a site’s value. The constant upgrading is only operation in a dynamic and fluid environment in which the net exists.

I would have thought PR is relevant only to search engines. That a higher PR makes a site more accessible to a user is the only reason one would seek a higher PR.

I think Google want to keep us on our toes and take nothing for granted. Its constant endeavor is to update and keep us guessing.

Indeed, PageRank doesn’t really mean anything much. It seems more of a psychological thing now–”this site has higher PR than the other site so I’m gonna trust it more”. Well I guess in that sense it’s useful.
