Excer-blogging, get in shape and get things done

Feb 22nd, 2008 | By knup | Category: Blogging, General

So I decided I need one of these:

What is it? It’s called a Tread Desk. In all honestly, I found this kind of funny because I actually have been multi-tasking lately and walking on my treadmill while I read through my RSS feeds. My laptop fits perfectly on my treadmill ledge. Obviously it’s tough and probably unsafe to try to type while walking this way. But for reading through and catching up with my daily feeds, it’s perfect. Now I can burn calories while still getting something productive done. Anyone else do anything kookie like this? I’m going to coin the phrase “Excer-blogging”!!!

  1. neat idea. I have started a program of gettig up from my swivel chair and doing 50 steps (on a tiny step machine I keep next to me chair) in between every blog post … I should be doing in between blog posts that I read as well. years ago I workd the way the lady in the picture is working (minus the treadmill) at a workstation ina workshop environment … and I must say it seemed to work out well.

Now perhaps I could just solve my whole problem very economically by putting my lap top pn a purpose-built shelf the right height for my arms while I am on the stepper? Hmm.

Another Exer-blogging thought that would be relatively easy to implement … hook a car alternator to the pedals of an stationary bike and plug your laptop into a cigarette lighter wired to the alternator … how many hours a day would you need to pedal for an adequate number of hours online? Engineers out there want to take a stab at that?

  2. I don’t have the stand up desk / treadmill combo.
But, I recently got a tablet PC. It fits nicely into the book holder on my regular tread mill.

I’ve enjoyed a couple days recently processing emails and catching up on some emails all while running (walking) off a few calories.

You can’t do everything this way — but for certain tasks it’s very cool.

  3. sonds great, maybe this kind of desk can used to help more and more sub-healthy people do some exercise.
